Salisbury University (SU) Online MSW Program

The Social Work Department at Salisbury University offers a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited, online MSW program that’s committed to “active community engagement in the pursuit of social and economic justice.” SU’s online MSW students can choose from two program tracks – the regular (traditional standing) program or the advanced standing program – both of which include a concentration in Community Based Practice and must be taken full time. While the regular program is open to applicants from all undergraduate backgrounds, the advanced standing program is reserved for those who have obtained an undergraduate degree in social work from a program accredited by CSWE within the last five years. The traditional track consists of 62 credit hours, which can be completed in three years of full-time study. The advanced standing track consists of 32 credit hours, which can be completed in 15 months of full-time study. Students must complete the curriculum in sequential order, taking foundation courses before advancing to concentrations and electives.

All of the coursework for SU’s online MSW program is available via the Internet. The program does not require students to make any visits to campus, however they must complete field education at human services agencies – a requirement of all Master of Social Work programs, on-campus, online or otherwise. Students on the regular track of SU’s online MSW must complete 1,216 hours, and students on the advanced standing track must completely 744 hours. SU’s Social Work Department will assist students in finding appropriate locations in nearby communities to complete their field education.

SU’s online MSW program is currently only available to students residing in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. In order to be accepted into the program applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 for the regular program; 3.2 for the advanced standing. GRE scores are not required for admission, nor are there any work experience requirements. Applications must include: an application fee of $65; a residency form; a professional resume; three personal statements; three to four letters of recommendation (for regular program students and advanced standing program students, respectively); mid-term and final field evaluations (advanced standing program students only); and official transcripts from all of the previously attended academic institutions.
