California State University, Chico’s School of Social Work offers a hybrid Master of Social Work (MSW) program through its Distributed Learning format. The program prepares students for advanced generalist social work practice across direct services with individuals, families and groups, as well as community and organizational practice. The Distributed Learning MSW combines online and face-to-face instruction. Chico State describes the format as approximately 75% online and 25% face-to-face, with asynchronous online coursework, scheduled live Zoom sessions and required campus meetings. Chico State offers a three-year Distributed Learning MSW option for students entering without a CSWE-accredited undergraduate social work degree and a one-year Distributed Learning MSW option for eligible advanced standing students.
