Florida State University (FSU) Online MSW Program

The Florida State University, College of Social Work offers an online Master of Social Work program with two tracks: one for traditional standing students and one for advanced standing students. The advanced standing program is designed for students who have completed a Bachelor of Social Work from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited undergraduate program. The advanced standing program also accepts transfer students who have completed the first year of a traditional MSW program including a generalist field placement.

Instruction for the online MSW program is 100% online and students are not required to visit the campus during the program. However, students in the traditional program are required to attend four weekend skill building sessions at locations within driving distance to FSU’s coverage areas. Students in the advanced standing program are not required to attend these sessions.

FSU’s online MSW program has defined eligibility requirements and only accepts students from specific counties in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. For the most up-to-date list of states and counties, students should visit FSU’s website or contact the College of Social Work to determine if they live in an area that is eligible for admission.

The online MSW program has a Clinical Social Work Practice concentration and is offered in a part-time format. The traditional program can be completed in three years while the advanced standing program can be completed in two years. For students who want/need flexible scheduling, the program uses asynchronous instruction, meaning students are not required to log on at specific times to attend classes. Instead, students are given deadlines to complete assignments and can log in and view lectures any time during the day or night.

FSU’s online MSW program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and helps to prepare students to take the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) clinical examinations, which are required to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
