Our Lady of the Lake University Online MSW Program

Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) currently offers a CSWE-accredited online MSW program through its Worden School of Social Service. OLLU’s online MSW program has two entry points:

  • Foundation MSW Program for students who earned their bachelor’s degree in a field other than social work
  • Advanced Standing MSW Program for individuals who have already earned their Bachelor’s of Social Work (BSW) from a CSWE-accredited undergraduate program

OLLU’s program is unique in that it is one of only three MSW programs in the United States that has an emphasis on serving the Hispanic community. As the Hispanic population in America is one of the fastest growing communities in the country, OLLU’s online MSW program is designed to prepare students to work in a wide variety of settings nationwide.

OLLU’s foundation MSW program requires 57 credits, which students complete over the course of a little over three years. OLLU’s advanced standing program requires the completion of 30 course credits in under two years. OLLU’s online MSW program is designed for working adults and classes use asynchronous instruction, meaning students are not required to log on at specific times to attend classes, which are seven weeks long.

OLLU’s online MSW program is entirely online in that it does not require its students to attend any on-campus intensives during their enrollment. However, as with all accredited MSW programs, students are required to complete a minimum number of hours of field education at a local approved agency. Foundation students must fulfill 950 hours of field education, which are divided into one foundational 450-hour internship and one 500-hour advanced-level internship. Students in the advanced standing program must complete one 500-hour field internship.

Application requirements for this program include a personal statement, three letters of recommendation, a professional resume, and transcripts from all post-secondary academic work. A cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above is required for admission to the Foundation program (a GPA between 2.5 and 3.0 may be acceptable with the inclusion of an explanatory GPA statement). For the advanced standing program, a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.00 or above is required.
