University of Hawai’i at Manoa Hybrid MSW Program
The University of Hawai’i offers a hybrid online MSW program that follows a cohort model with some synchronous but mainly asynchronous structure. Traditional and advanced standing options are available with concentrations in Children and Families. Students are required to physically visit campus once a year, meeting live at the Oahu Campus.
For traditional standing students course requirements to graduate require 57 credits hours, and 900 hours of field education. Advanced standing students are required to complete 30 credit hours and 450 hours of field education. Both programs are available in a part time option and take three years for traditional and two years for advanced. The advanced program also has full-time option that takes one year to complete. The MSW program is available through distance education technology to neighbor island residents in their communities (Hawai‘i, Moloka‘i, Kaua‘i, Maui, or Lana‘i).With the use of a computer, webcam, microphone, and televisions, students will engage in classes.
Hawaiʻi Interactive Television Services (HITS), provides broadcast-quality video communications to the neighboring islands which allow each site to see multiple other sites simultaneously. Admissions for traditional students is in the fall only while the advanced standing is in the Summer only. University of Hawai’i online MSW program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Program Structure: Combination of different delivery methods including online, hybrid and on-site (at specific locations throughout Hawaii) with field practicums (note: students must visit the Oahu campus once a year)
Instruction Methods: Program follows a cohort model – students take courses through a variety of delivery methods including interactive television, online, hybrid, and face-to-face meetings at a local site. Classes are typically on weeknights, but may take place on Saturdays as well.
