Online MSW Programs in New Hampshire (NH)

The University of New Hampshire’s Department of Social Work, based in Durham, currently offers the only fully online MSW program in the state. The majority of its classes are delivered asynchronously, allowing students to complete readings, learning modules and assignments on their own time as long as they meet the relevant deadlines. However, some courses are synchronous, requiring students to meet faculty and classmates for live, real-time classes; in these instances, student surveys determine meeting times to optimize flexibility. The program follows the standard cohort model, with a set plan of study, but three annual start times — fall, spring and summer — do offer students some flexibility.

In addition to the online coursework, students in the University of New Hampshire’s online MSW program must also complete field education requirements at a local health services agency.

Please note: All online MSW programs require students to complete field education at a local health services agency.

The University of New Hampshire’s Department of Social Work does not offer an advanced standing track. Its traditional track includes a number of concentrations: Advanced Generalist with Electives: Health and Mental Health; Addictions and Substance Abuse; Children, Youth and Families; and Disabilities. The traditional track is 62 credit hours and requires two field placements totaling 1,160 hours. It is full time only, typically requiring 28 to 29 months to complete.

In addition to The University of New Hampshire, students residing in the state have several out-of-state online MSW options. There are 21 out-of-state universities with online MSW programs that accept students from New Hampshire, and the majority of these programs are fully online, meaning they do not require students to visit campus while earning their degrees. Five of these programs do necessitate a limited number of campus visits, which may actually be ideal for those students looking for the flexibility of an online program, though still interested in meeting their professors and peers in person.

Several out-of-state online MSW programs also have the same tuition rate for in-state and out-of-state students, so aspiring social workers in New Hampshire would do well to research as many options as possible. To learn more about a particular program below, click on the school’s name.

*All online MSW programs require field education at a local health services agency. Programs that are 100% online do not require students to visit the campus during the program. For schools that are not 100% online, we classify any program that requires two or fewer visits to the campus per year as an online program.
