Advanced standing Master of Social Work (MSW) programs are designed for students who have earned a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from a CSWE accredited undergraduate degree program. While admission requirements vary greatly between the different programs, advanced standing online MSW programs typically have stricter admission criteria and accept fewer students than traditional programs. Therefore, prospective students should anticipate more competition for acceptance into these programs and may want to consider applying to more than one program if eligible.
Currently, there are 26 schools that offer advanced standing online MSW programs. All online programs must meet the same CSWE accreditation standards as their campus-based counterparts. However, there are currently no regulations with regards to what can be called an “online” degree program. Therefore, on OnlineMSWPrograms.com, we classify any program that requires a student to visit the campus two or fewer times per year an online program.
Programs with a campus requirement are ideal for students who want the opportunity to meet teachers and classmates in person, but who still want to complete the majority of their degree online. The campus requirements are usually limited to a weekend or a one week period and students know in advance when they will be required to attend in person.
