Loyola University Chicago (LUC) offers a MSW in a shorter amount of time – 10 months (full-time) and two years (part-time). The Advanced Standing Program is designed for students who have earned their BSW from a CSWE-accredited institution. This program benefits those who would like an accelerated schedule, to choose a specification, and to make professional connections through field work/internships at partner agencies/non-profit organizations.
Students in the program complete coursework in the following areas:
Training in clinical, school, and community settings
Preparing for leadership roles in clinical, human services, outreach, and developmental settings
Developing skills in a clinical track which includes health, children and families, school social work, and mental health specialties
Developing skills in advanced family treatment, forensic mental health, migration studies, and group work
Understanding leadership and development to aid skills in administration, non-profit management, grant writing, staff support, and program development
Advanced Standing Track
The MSW program requires completion of 28 credit hours, including a 720-hour internship. The program takes 10 months to complete if you are going full time (four classes per semester plus fieldwork) or two years if you are going part time (two classes per semester).
The MSW Advanced Standing requires a 720-hour internship, performed at the rate of 24 hours per week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during normal business hours. Students work with internship coordinators to secure their internship placements. A limited number of summer block internships are available for one of the internships. The block consists of 35-40 hours per week, Monday-Friday - during normal business hours.
Advanced Standing students automatically receive 32 credit hours for the nine courses listed below. Students will complete 28 credit hours based on the requirements of their specialization curriculum.
