Edinboro University Online MSW Program

The Edinboro University Department of Social Work currently offers two online MSW programs, one for traditional students and one for advanced standing students. At this time, Edinboro only offers full-time online MSW programs; neither program is offered in a part-time format. The traditional program takes two years to complete with classes year round in the fall, winter, spring and summer quarters. The advanced standing program is a one year program, also with classes year round.

Learn More: Interview with Dr. Elaine Rinfrette – MSW Program Director at Edinboro University
“We have a program that is geared toward completion in 2 years time… Students can get their degree in a timely manner.” Read more from Dr. Elaine Rinfrette’s interview

Edinboro’s online MSW program has a family social work practice focus; however, students are prepared to work in a variety of settings as the courses teach a generalist approach and students are allowed to work in several different types of agencies for their field education requirements.

In addition, the majority of classes use asynchronous instruction, meaning students are not required to log on at specific times to attend classes. Programs with asynchronous instruction are ideal for students who want extra flexibility during their degree program, but they require discipline to stay on track and keep up with coursework and assignments.

For students who are considering pursuing a MSW full-time, field education requirements are 18 hours per week during the fall and spring quarters. However, since Edinboro’s program has year round classes, students only take 9 credits per quarter instead of 15 like for many other programs. This is ideal for students who need to work part-time during the program.

Edinboro University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and the online MSW programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
