University of Alaska Anchorage Online MSW Programs
The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) School of Social Work offers a distance-delivered Master of Social Work (MSW) program with an Advanced Generalist concentration. The CSWE-accredited program is designed to prepare students for advanced generalist social work practice, including clinical social work practice, policy practice and leadership. (uaa.alaska.edu)
UAA offers both a full MSW pathway and an advanced standing pathway. The full MSW program includes generalist and advanced generalist coursework and requires up to 61 credits. The advanced standing pathway allows eligible students with a qualifying BSW to waive most of the generalist curriculum and complete the advanced generalist curriculum. UAA’s catalog lists a minimum of 31 credits and a maximum of 61 credits required for the MSW. (catalog.uaa.alaska.edu)
The program is 100% distance-delivered, but students complete in-person practicum placements in their communities. UAA’s program materials describe the curriculum as using both synchronous and asynchronous technologies, including Blackboard and Zoom, with required weekly distance-delivered class sessions. (uaa.alaska.edu)
UAA’s MSW program is designed for Alaska social work licensure and may not meet licensure requirements in other states. UAA’s catalog states that only applicants eligible to be licensed in Alaska are admitted to the MSW program. Students planning to practice outside Alaska should review licensure requirements in the state where they intend to practice. (catalog.uaa.alaska.edu)
Traditional/full MSW students complete two practicum placements of 480 hours each, for a total of 960 practicum hours. Advanced standing students complete one 480-hour practicum placement. UAA’s admissions booklet states that practicum placements are completed in students’ home communities when appropriate placements are available. (uaa.alaska.edu)
