University of Iowa Online MSW Program
The University of Iowa (UI) School of Social Work offers a CSWE-accredited online Master of Social Work (MSW) program designed for students who want to earn their MSW remotely while completing practicum education in their community. The online program is delivered through Zoom, and required classes meet in the evening Monday through Thursday, starting no earlier than 5:30 p.m. Central time. Students admitted to the online MSW program must reside in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota or Wisconsin.
UI offers both regular standing and advanced standing online MSW options. The regular standing option is a 54-semester-hour program for students who do not have a CSWE-accredited social work degree. It begins in the fall semester and can be completed in two, three or four years. The advanced standing option is a 36-semester-hour program for students who have earned a BA in Social Work or BSW from a CSWE-accredited social work program. The online advanced standing option begins in the summer semester and is structured as a two-year program.
Students in the Iowa MSW curriculum prepare for either clinical practice or leadership practice. The curriculum also allows students to develop expertise in specialized fields such as trauma and resilience, children and families, clinical practice, school social work, organizational leadership, aging, longevity and end-of-life care, and higher education and research.
Advanced Standing Track
The advanced standing track is designed for students who have completed a BA in Social Work or BSW from a CSWE-accredited social work degree program. Advanced standing students complete 36 semester hours and begin the online program in the summer semester.
