University of Nevada, Reno Online MSW Program

The University of Nevada, Reno’s School of Social Work offers an online MSW program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). To fulfil the school’s mission of creating effective, ethical social work leaders, and practitioners, its online MSW is structured around the Advanced Generalist clinical concentration.

Online MSW students at the University of Nevada, Reno can choose from two program tracks – traditional and advanced standing. The traditional track is open to applicants from all undergraduate backgrounds, but those applying to the advanced standing track must hold a bachelor’s degree in social work from an undergraduate program accredited by CSWE. The traditional track consists of 62 credits and the advanced standing track consists of only 32 credits. The curriculum must be completed in sequential order, with foundation courses preceding concentration courses.

Almost all of the coursework for the University of Nevada, Reno’s online MSW program is accessible via the Internet, but the program does require students in the traditional program to complete a two-day residency featuring time at their patient simulation facilities in Reno. (There is no such obligation for advanced standing students.) All traditional students must also complete 900 hours of field education at health services agencies in their local communities. Advanced standing students must complete 450 hours The School of Social Work will assist students in finding appropriate venues at which to complete their field education.

In order to be accepted into the online MSW program at the University of Nevada, Reno, applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0. GRE scores are not necessary for admission, nor are there any work experience requirements. Applications must include: a non-refundable $60 application fee; official transcripts from all educational institutions previously attended; a personal statement; and two letters of recommendation.
